Usual disclaimers: You are allowed to use this file only for private study; making money off of it is strictly verboten. If the chords don't line up in whatever word processor you are using, change the whole document to Courier
font (or some other equal-spaced font). And lastly: this is my interpretation of the song; no copyright infringement or toe-stepping-on is intended.
Notes: Sunburst Finish has been called Be Bop Deluxe's "last guitar album". This song certainly supports that claim: The guitar plays a supporting role, and if there is any flash in the song, the keyboard supplies it. (Because it
is buried low in the mix, I was unable to get those parts.) There are actually only three parts to this song. The first is a shuffle, based on the A chord, which adds the F# to the A major chord. This can be played as 597655 or x04220. The shuffle consists of 2 bars of the A chord, then two of the A+F# chord. The second pattern is a 1-bar pattern, alternating between the A and F#m(7) chords on each beat. Use alternating strokes (up, down, up, down, etc) for a fluid effect. The third pattern appears in the chorus, and consists of the sequence F#m - E - D, right before the lyric "There's Panic in the World". I found this song easier to play if I capoed the guitar at the second
fret; the A, F#m, E, and D chords become G, Em, D, and C, respectively. The "shuffle chord" G+E can be played as 322003, using my index finger to fret/unfret the D string.

Listen to the song for timing.] In the cities there is talk of rain and fire, It was on the air today, it almost filled me with desire ... All our skies are grey, they say the dreamers line the streets, Looking out from hollow houses, rivers running at their feet ... F# E D Part 2 (2x) Oh, oh, oh, oh, there's Panic in the World ... F# E D Part 1, then Part 2 (4x) Oh, oh, oh, oh, there's Panic in the World ... [Part 2, 16x] My love and I, we escaped, we left no trace For they had raped both body and soul ... The taste was much too hard to swallow, We ran naked through the cold ... Above our heads, in fiery red, The clouds, they bled like open wounds across the sky ... The wings of many nations, falling, burning, turning, Trying oh, so hard to die ... F# E D Part 2 (2x) Oh, oh, oh, oh, there's Panic in the World ... F# E D Part 1, then Part 2 (4x) Oh, oh, oh, oh, there's Panic in the World ... [Part 2, 16x] We'll find an island, we'll burn the maps, We'll lock our hearts and throw the keys into the sea, let's be survivors, they'll never find us, It's all behind us, I know a place they've never been ... In new horizon, in golden swarms, in comes tomorrow, It's thunder storms over the hill ... The future falls, beyond these walls, Destiny calling, like the dawn a sweeter thrill ... F# E D Part 2 (2x) Oh, oh, oh, oh, there's Panic in the World ... F# E D Part 2 (2x) Oh, oh, oh, oh, there's Panic in the World ... F# E D Part 1 (2x) Oh, oh, oh, oh, there's Panic in the World ...OUTRO/KEYBOARD SOLO: Part 2, as needed.Sister Seagull (thanks to Robert Watson for this contribution)

This is the main riff for Shine. Guitarists will know where to phrase and where to hammer on or pull off - just listen to the album.

This section is repeated throughout the song. Some notes are played twice very quickly. Listen to the song, it's easy to follow and fun to play. This was recorded using a classical guitar, probably an Ovation.

The tricky bit is section c with the change for the final run down - this is what I think
is happening, there are lots of guitars playing at the end, listen to the album and use
the sheet music on this page this should be a guide (have fun). dave
