What a truly horrible day is it today. Mick's bass playing is for me probably the best I've ever heard and to think there won't be anymore is truly sad. He was a great part of my life. RIP Mick.

This news comes to me at a time when my brother is spending his last few hours in the Hospice battling against secondary cancers from a bowel cancer episode that took place many years ago. So, I can imagine just how difficult this must be for Mick's family, especially as he is so much younger that my brother.

Despite all the advances in medicine in the last 100 years, I am occasionally reminded of just how fragile we are. At least he is now at peace.

An incredible, innovative and unique musician.

Will never forget the impression his playing left on me growing up in the 80s.

Japan were incredible and Mick's input on 'Chimera' helped make it my favourite of Bill's.

R.I.P.

He was also a pretty darn fine saxophonist too. Check out Numan's Dance album for this as well as great his usual bass (natch).

Please check out 'Dance'. It wouldn't be half as good if Mick wasn't on it.

The sax solo on his own track 'Sensitive' is sublime and worth a listen
