Hi Painterman

I don't have the first gigs you mentioned, so I'll have to investigate!

NME dated March 22 1975
Thursday Aberystwyth University
Friday Swansea Patti Pavilion
Saturday Peterborough Technical College

The rest of the dates you mentioned are part of the 1976 tour with the Doctors of Madness except I couldn't find the Swansea date.

12 Feb 1976 St George's Hall Bradford Bradford, UK Be Bop Deluxe with Doctors Of Madness
13 Feb 1976 Corn Exchange, Cambridge Be Bop Deluxe with Doctors Of Madness
14 Feb 1976 Free Trade Hall Manchester, UK Be Bop Deluxe with Doctors Of Madness
15 Feb 1976 Leisure Centre, Swindon Be Bop Deluxe with Doctors Of Madness
17 Feb 1976 City Hall, Hull Be Bop Deluxe with Doctors Of Madness
21 Feb 1976 Kursaal Ballroom, Southend Be Bop Deluxe with Doctors Of Madness

Thanks for the extra info!

I haven't read the whole thread to see if this has been corrected but at the two Winterland shows in November 1976, BBD was 2nd bill. Rush opened.

26 November 1976 Winterland, San Francisco, CA
Ted Nugent, Be Bop Deluxe, Rush

27 November 1976 Winterland, San Francisco, CA
Ted Nugent, Be Bop Deluxe, Rush

(We were lucky enough to see one of these plus the '77 and '78 shows. Missed the April 76 show. Still pissed about that one. )

If it has already been mentioned (possibly by me), sorry. These 80 hour weeks are starting to take their toll.

Hello Geetar, I wonder if your concert was a third one at Unity that year as the first one I went to had chairs in rows across the hall and it was light outside and sunny while waiting to go in and both I went to did have a support band. Plus I don't think Bill wore a hat at either.

Yes Painterman seems there was another gig. The details of what Bill was wearing are ones i can definately remember. There were only one row or maybe two rows of chairs in front of the stage the rest was standing.
Suppose theres a chance it could have been late '74.

Glasgow University 8th November 1975. My mate was Ents Convener of Glasgow Uni and I pestered the hell out off him to book Be Bop Deluxe. Band were paid £220. I still have my ticket stub autographed by all of the band and yes, it was a stellar gig.

Dave, I know it was a long time ago, but can you remember how the gig was arranged/advertised, as I was desperate to see the band playing in Scotland.

Even though I was only 16 at the time, was going to 2/3 gigs a week back then, and this one slipped under the radar.

Only got to see them for the first time at Strathclyde University in January 1976

Hi Eddie, Glasgow University had a policy of gigs being open to university students from any UK unversity, IIRC Glasgow Uni students could son in one guest for a gig but I'm not sure - I was at uni in Ednburgh. The gig would have been advertised only within Glasgow Uni so unless you were a student there or knew scene who was, then you would be unlikely to know about it. As an aside, the spelt the "Be" of Be Bop deluxe as "Bee" on the ticket.
Sorry for delay in replying as not checking forum regularly as on holiday in NYC!

It's an old thread but I've landed here.
I listen to tunes while I work.
I was listening to "Live In The Air Age".
I hadn't in quite some time but let's just say I wore it out back in the day.
One thing led to another and I was Googling "Bee Bop Deluxe Albany NY 1978"
And landed at this thread.
Yes I was there at the Palace theater and I've been a Bee Bop / Bill Nelson fan since.
A friend went to the Bee Bop show a few months earlier and raved about it.
I just remember that it was a great show and the next day I went out and bought 3 albums.
Such a mind blowing blast from the past.

Cheers!!

Was that the Drastic Plastic tour? I was at two Palace Theater shows. One was the LITAA tour, and the other was the Drastic Plastic tour. I was already spun up on BBD due to Sunbirst Finish getting regular play on FM radio. 8)

Cheers. 'Pod.

Cute. :)

Man, I guess Bill and probably others think of 'Hope For The Heartbeat' as the most beep-boop deluxe song of Bill's that exists. I really crave listening to that track often .... love me some beeps and boops ... and shivers like that song has got. 8)

The other night, had a dream that a big band was performing a enormous-sounding, very swinging and slightly crazy version of 'Hope For The Heartbeat' ... stylistically lying somewhere between Duke Ellington and Sun Ra and the Arkestra. Sounded great. :)
