I recently purchased "The Sparkle Machine" via Bandcamp and I have to say, I think it's a wonderful choice.

Without a doubt.

Glad you found your way here, and to some of Bill's newer music.

Are there plans for more albums on BandCamp? There are numerous 21st century albums out of print that I'd love to hear. Clocks And Dials is top of my list at the moment.

I hope I'm not missing the point here, but when I download a FLAC file from Bandcamp, then convert it to MP3 of 320kbps to burn it onto a CD, aren't I in the same place as if I'd just downloaded that quality of MP3 in the first place? I'd obviously like the best possible audio quality. Please let me know if I'm on the right track here. I'm guessing there must be a reason for offering FLAC.
Yours... Slightly confused :?

My understanding is (and I may be wrong) FLAC is lossless while MP3 is not. The difference being that MP3 compresses information by removing some of it and then assuming the information when it decodes (plays back in other words).

Even if I were to download something I would want it in FLAC because it can be written as CDA (CD audio) and which is not (in my understanding) MP3.

Here; I Googled this and I seem to have been pretty much correct:

What Lossless File Formats Are & Why You Shouldn’t Convert Lossy to Lossless

http://www.howtogeek.com/142174/what-lo ... o-lossless

Kind regards.

The short answer is yes.

Don't convert FLAC to MP3 and burn a CD with it.

You convert to AIFF files, which are lossless (and just as large as FLAC files) and burn those to your CD.

Of course, I'm Mac-talking here.

Is AIFF better than WAV ? Listening-wise ?

I'm a PC person...

I was trying to decide what my next couple of digital downloads will be.

I got Last of the Neon Cynics this morning and am trying to download to my phone. It can take a couple tries if you don't have a stable connection to wi fi.

I dunno... I prefer the vocal albums. I was thinking of getting the dreamers companion discs? Isn't that kind of a best of from various albums?

Anyway....help Johnny.
