So sad to hear of the death of Aretha Franklin, one of my absolute favourite singers. Her voice carried such emotion and soul, a stunning performer whose song 'Respect' made such a powerful impact on my younger life. Another giant felled by time... :(

Yes and as Elton John pointed out today, she's underrated as a pianist, one of his favourite pianists .

I could write so much about Lady Soul.....but instead I'll just recommend the same said album, 'Lady Soul'.

She may not have had the subtlety of Gladys Knight or the grace of Ella Fitzgerald..... but when you wanted raw, emotional power - there was probably no one else to touch her.

Check out on You Tube, the song 'Good To Me As I Am To You're

Rest in peace, Aretha.

Aretha Franklin's passing has hit me in a way that is hard to put into words. Her voice was like no other that I have heard. It sends shivers down my spine every time I hear her sing. And the more I hear about her life through the tributes that have been pouring from the TV in the past 24 hours the more impressed I am with how she conducted her life. As Annie Lennox said in tribute, "She was peerless."

I like some of her albums. Dad is a big fan and has many of her albums. A very powerful voice did AF have and she was a very good musician too. RIP Aretha x
