Just noticed that the article is written by "Iron Maiden's Stave Harris" ... that's interesting . Bruce Dickinson is something of a Renaissance Man and an entertaining interviewee but that's really all I know about Maiden .

I had to laugh at one of the posted comments from someone who said that the album wasn't 'rock' enough and was about to go to the pub for some beers and listen to AC/DC.
I think he missed the point, which was that we were not supposed to fit the 'rock' stereotype, and certainly tried very hard to avoid the kind of stuff put out by bands such as AC/DC and their ilk. (I've never liked that kind of thing, I'm afraid, just not my taste.)

I'm afraid there has always been a resistance to genuine creative individuality within the 'straight' or 'heavy' rock fraternity. The irony is that they think that macho posturing, volume, long hair and 'shredding' is a rebellious statement, when in actual fact, it's conservatism of the most banal kind. A cultural stereotype. Sad, but, there you go.

I sort of class Bill as a kind o f'Bowie' always to 'expect the unexpected' so you could never pigeon hole his music
and what he's doing today is an inspiration for all young artists
think about it he writes the music, records the music, produces the recordings
then he does the artwork, the distribution and to top it all does a one man show

I note from Bill's journal its a lot of efort, expence and stress -would it be possible that on the vocal tracks of his back catalogue to strip it right back and do a sort of unplugged
(I think it was in the 90s I caught Bowie and Reeves doing a two guitar version of I think -lets dance - china girl and im afraid of Americans they just sat on stools and playe - he was being interviewed by a Scottish guy who had a chat show
at the time so went down on spec to see if we could get in with great success)

Im sure it would work just with an acoustic but what do I know

would like to hear some thoghts

cheers
Antman

…...that was The Jack Docherty Show in 1997 - I remember watching it live on TV after work, before going out on the razz....

….as I remember, Bowie and Reeves performed a fantastic (and to my mind preferable) acoustic version of 'Dead Man Walking' from the then current 'Earthling' album - such a great song but a little 'overblown' on the album itself in my opinion.

thats right it was filmed at a theatre near trafalgar square i new it was something from earthling I didnt even know the show was planned ( we use t get a bit of a warning for when he did tv appearances to have a chance of tickets) my mate rang me on the day and fortunately I was in London to say Bowie was a big name he always wanted fans in the shows and made a special effort to get them in we were so fortunate that way even got us in when he did bbc's maida vale I have been fortunate to meet him many times over the decades
from the 70s right up till 2000s always signed and made a special effort to take time out and chat once spent a couple of hours in manchester chatting with him any way thats a different story

but Im sure a unplugged a 40th anniversary 'sound on sound' would work

I note amongst the reviews, one person repeatedly refers to the album as Alt-rock/post punk. The determination to label the music is amusing but the fact that punk was still yet to properly come about, let alone being 'post' made me laugh out loud. Is there a 'pre-punk' label?

Why does ANYTHING need a label? Why can’t “things” be enjoyed for what they are? Labels imply conformance, barriers, boundaries, why do we need such things? :?
