Depending on your personal inclination, Soros' editorial may be a desperate call to arms to save the EU or conversely a Europsceptic may see a thinly veiled globalist plot to subsume all of the nation states of Europe into a single Brussels controlled dystopian mega-state... perhaps even by force...

Haven't had chance to read what Soros has had to say so can't comment.

But from my personal point of view/opinion, the UK should have opted to stay within the EU. America and Russia seem to be doing their best to destroy the European block and disrupt its influence and amalgamated power over the Putin's and Trump's of this world. And that's only one, political reason for remaining. The other is the devastating effect it will have on our economy and jobs, and even on our tourist industry, NHS and supermarket shelves. The vote was won by an ignorance of the real repercussions of losing our connection with Europe. And those who were most virulent about leaving will, unfortunately, be amongst the first to suffer the consequences. We've made ourselves a bed of nettles, but now have little option other than to lay in it. History will judge us negatively I'm afraid.

Whether it is to stand up to existential threats from the likes of Putin and Trump, or to compete against the current or emerging trading superpowers - USA, China, India, maybe Brazil depending on what happens now - the need for the EU is now greater than ever.

To think that the UK would be better off on its own is jingoistic English madness.

There are, of course, aspects of the EU that could be improved. Far better, then, to try to improve it from the inside, than to walk away from it.
