Bill,

Glad to hear you've decided to stay on the Mac. I had no idea there were Thunderbolt interfaces available already. I had to buy a Thunderbolt to Firewire 400 patch cord to get audio from my newer iMac into my Tascam 788 digital recorder. The large monitor is a good choice too; I also suffer from some eye problems (cataract surgeries followed by a detached retina), and my larger 22.5 inch monitor is a great help. I've also repurposed a small microwave rolling cart - the digital recorder sits on top with my outboard gear and MOTU audio interface, the CD writer fits perfect on the shelf below. Next shelf down holds my blank CDRs and audio adapters. I can unplug the Firewire cable and move everything from one room to another on the cart as I have various software on different computers.

I've used Cubase for years (since it was called Pro-24) and I'm sure you'll be happy with it.

Tom

I am amazed that Mackie has not stepped up to provide you with equipment as you have not only been a loyal user of their technology, but have raved about it endlessly. It is because of their discontinuance of the mixing desk (and being unable to repair the ones you have that you have to reconfigure your home recording studio. Again an amazing opportunity for any vendor to get the endorsement of a viable home industry legend for the cost of a few units. I mean you could record some home videos to teach a master class on home recording.

Anyway, hope the transition is not too intrusive or too long. I remember Whimsey as being a "practice digital album". I suppose in the meantime, several of the albums in the can could get mastered and released - if only to help with cash flow.

Hi Bill.
I'm excited for you as you start on a new recording path. I understand your concerns though.
The closest with analog I got was my old Tascam 4 track cassette recorder.
But you can "tape" things up with some cool plug-ins...even some are free. Cubase 10!? Yeah! Have some fun with that.
I use Reason 10, Logic 8, Reaper, etc. with no shame or regrets.
