I just picked up a vinal copy of Das Kabinet for £2 from a local Oxfam Shop, I was just amazed it was even in there let alone at the bargain price of £2 :?

I bought this when it first came out but due to financial differculties in Thatcher's 80's I sold it :cry:

What a fantastic atmospheric album this is, I have fond memories of The Yorkshire Players doing excerpts of this during The Invisablity Exhibition, something that is etched in my mind forever :roll:

I was just thinking that this must have been Bill's very first standalone instrumental album (apart from La Bele et la Bete and Sounding the Ritual Echo which where included with other 'conventional' albums)

This must have been a brave move for Bill (Financially) but of all the albums from this period this is one I would love to own on CD, remastered digitally with any additional tracks that may have been recorded during this session.

I love the cover art as well (reminds me of Nosferatu), I think I'll bring this along to Nelsonica for Bill to sign in a black permanent marker of course :wink:

Great album Urban...! If my memory serves me correct I think there were some extra tracks played at The Yorkshire Actors performance....maybe I'm wrong it was so long ago....I seem to remember The Yorkshire Actors playing live after the performance under the name 'The Actors'...Peter Geeves on violin who appeared on 'Getting The Holy Ghost Across'....I think the Sleeve design for 'Das Kabinett' was based on the original film poster. (was it Rocking Russian?). Whatever, disturbing and menacing album!

jetboy.

This is on a slight tangent to the thread, but both the original 'Nosferatu' and the 'Kabinet of Dr Kaligari' movies can be downloaded from the 'Waybackwhenmachine' legally. Here are the links;

'Nosferatu':http://wapurl.co.uk/?4V8DX67

'Kabinet of Dr Kaligari':http://wapurl.co.uk/?3EM4WGG

I keep meaning to download them myself. Just got over experiencing H.G. Wells' 'Things to come'

Yes, jetboy Rockin Russian designed the cover, I'm just wondering what Bill's take on this was. This was totally different in design and concept to all other Bill Nelson albums, even by today's standard this looks like a radical departure and indeed 'dark and menacing' :evil:

Good links Johnny, I'm downloading Kaligari at this very moment, will probably take me all night, just leave the computer on methinks! :roll:

I love that album! The cover is so Expressionist. It's one of the main reasons I discovered Max Ernst and learned there was more to Expressionism than just Kafka. MUCH more! I thought it was very brave of Bill at the time and still do.

Kind of like just about everything else he does!

Yesterday was the anniversary of the release of Das Kabinet in 1981.

Sorry that I missed posting yesterday.
