SORRY, due to abuse by a few members, we have had to remove the ability for members Avatar pictures to link to an externally-hosted picture/image (ie. on their own or someone else's server).

As a result, these images will no longer display on the left-hand side underneath your forum name.

Instead, we have activated the Avatar Upload function, and are permitting you to upload your own pictures to our server, but these will only work if they comply with the following limits:

The Avatar Control Panel is reached from within your PROFILE -- just click the Profile link at the top of any Dreamsville forum page to access this, then scroll down the page to locate it.

Displays a small graphic image below your details in posts.

Only one image can be displayed at a time

Its width can be no greater than 80 pixels

The height no greater than 80 pixels

File size no more than 6 KB.

May I also remind members that linking and embedding external images within your posts that are greater than 500 pixels in width ruins the whole forum layout and forces the column width wider than it should be. Some of the images from Nelsonica 2006 are huge, so if you could please check your own images and resize them and resave them on your servers/computers, it will make for a much easier forum to navigate. :D

cheers,
Ian G

Apologies all....it's probably my fault. I'm pretty much a moron when it comes to avatars(don't even know what the definition is). Mine was too big, and I thought I deleted it, but I got a PM this morning telling me to change it or delete it, so it looks like I couldn't even it do that right. I tried again, but I'm not sure if was successful....I guess this post will tell....I'm very soory

Now Radium...it is not how BIG your avatar is, it is what you can DO with it. Quality over quantity....

Ah, the 6k size limitation makes it… impossible.

I've tinkered around with my avatar & know it's not going to be worth a rat's ass if it is the same size as the dot on an "i", so guess will have to do without.

I got it down to 48k (though the file size in Photoshop showed the JPEG as 6k), but the Lurker On The Threashold said "no dice" to an upload.

So I'll post the cigar-p*** within messages. :)

After all, sometimes a cigar is just… oh, who am I kiddning?

Tried Jpeg, Gif, Bmp files...all of them less than 80 x 80 pixels, and much less than 6K...all I get is a red X.

Any ideas anyone?

Even Mr. Mayor is missing his avatar  ... relieved it's not something I'm doing wrong.

Many sites which allow avatars limit the width to 80 pixels, but the overall JPEG or GIF size to 80k.

A wee bit larger that the 6k recommended…

Hey all I want to say is 'please mister can I have my avatar back' kind of in the way i used to do when I kicked my ball into someones garden! I am also finding the 6k limit and size difficult to sort out, but thats probably because I'm digitally illiterate (if there is such a thing!).

And I thought it added such a nice feel to everyones posts! :D
