What if Bill had the call from Bowie instead of Reeves Gabrels ?
Would love to hear your thoughts on this
cheers Antman

I thought this was a post about the second Dixie Dregs album.

Going back to your original question, though, I don't think Bill would have gone for the offer. His focus was on his own material, as it continues to be.

Their vocal harmonies would've been incredible, Bill's and David's, and, obviously, such a great meeting of minds that, well, I actually can't fathom it .

Since 'Heroes', I'd long wanted to hear Bill's e-bow playing on some Bowie tracks .

So ...

What if it had been Bowie/Nelson/Eno instead of Bowie/Fripp/Eno ... or what if it had been Bowie/Nelson/Fripp/Eno ... ?

Have thought about such things since teenage years .

I'd imagine, though, if it'd happened for at least one song let alone one album, let alone the millions of years of years Reeves worked with DB, it might've been somewhat similar, in some ways, especially considering the Reeves/Bill collaborative CD .

Bowie-Nelson-Fripp & Eno What an amazing exploration that would be. Some kind of improved version of the wonderful Sylvian-Nelson-Fripp collaborations we hear in Gone To Earth. What a dream.

May I point out, Andre, that I always figured David Sylvian from the time he was still a young South London misfit, in Lewisham, named David Alan Batt, was thinking along similar lines, wondering "what if" ...

I Love Bowie/Nelson/Eno Alec

so here's what if Bill had replaced Fripp and Reeves

Scary monsters
Guitar :D Bill Nelson (Robert Fripp) – guitar on "Fashion", "It's No Game", "Scary Monsters (And Super Creeps)", "Kingdom Come", "Up the Hill Backwards", and "Teenage Wildlife"

Heroes (full album)
Guitar :D Bill Nelson (Robert Fripp)

The first collaboration between Bowie and guitarist Bill Nelson (Reeves Gabrels), a new arrangement of “Look Back in Anger,” breathed new life into Bowie's live performances of the new version of the song(Arts (ICA) in July 1988, at a benefit concert called “Intruders at the Palace.) - (first time I saw Reeves play)

Tin Machine 1 Tin Machine 11

David Bowie – lead vocals, electric and acoustic guitars, saxophone
Bill Nelson (Reeves Gabrel) – electric and acoustic guitars, backing vocals
Tony Sales – bass guitar, backing vocals
Hunt Sales – drums, percussion, backing vocals

Outside
Bill Nelson (Reeves Gabrel) – electric and acoustic guitars, backing vocals

Earthling
Bill Nelson (Reeves Gabrel) – programming; synthesisers; real and sampled guitars; vocals

Hours
Bill Nelson (Reeves Gabrel) Reeves Gabrels – drum programming, guest artist, guitar, producer, synthesizer programming
Producer David Bowie- Bill Nelson (Reeves Gabrel)

and finally
Never Let Me Down 2018
Bill Nelson (Reeves Gabrel) - guitar

so Bill would have had his work cut out

but what would the albums have been like eh

makes you think

it was just a bit of fun to get everyone thinking

cheers
Antman

Those are all interesting combinations, Antman, but, let's face it, after The Spiders, did Dave EVER work with another Englishman EVER again ? It seemed like he banned himself from even the concept, despite homesickness . Well, aside from John Lennon but does that count ? No, it does not .

Okay ... Fripp and Eno, oh, and the great Andy Clark ... but, still ... I never understood that aspect of DB .

David's dad was from Doncaster and, well, I'm sure a trip to Yorkshire to work with Bill on this and that wouldn't have violated this "ban" .

By the way. I meant no disrespect to David Sylvian. He's another one of those most special artists in my mind.
