Old Folks' Day Out In The Sun

Saturday 5th August - https://www.anewdayfestival.com/schedule/saturday

Hawkwind
Caravan
Gong
Carl Palmer's ELP Legacy
Atomic Rooster
Curved Air
Peatbog Faeries
The Crazy World Of Arthur Brown
Bernie Tormé
Dr Schwamp
The Far Meadow

I shudder to think what the combined ages of all the artists must be. And I know that there are only a few original members left in those bands. It's a l-o-n-g time since I went to a festival, but that line-up is stellar, and surely won't come together again. And the weather forecast is good 8)

No idea what the Peatbogs are doing in the middle of that lot, but they are the icing on the cake :) Gaelic techno-trance or something like that - with fiddle and bagpipes!

Warning - lots of strobe lighting.

Bill Nelson connection - Dave Sturt, current member of Gong.

Gong's first album after the sad loss of Daevid Allen was my album of the year for 2016. The original members are no longer present, but the spirit of Gong remains as strong as ever and Kavus Torabi is the optimum choice as the new frontman. I just hope he doesn't spread himself too thin with Knifeworld and Guapo to front as well. :D

They were very good yesterday. I'm not familiar with their recent music, but they held me enthralled for their hour.

Some long, floating, timeless instrumental passages, almost as though they were just helping the music work itself out. Dave Sturt's bass a vital and integral part, especially one number which sounded as though it was all based around a repetitive, throbbing bass riff. And then a certain key change, or rhythm, or honking sax, and you're reminded of the Radio Gnome Invisible days.

Really enjoyed it.

I have just booked tickets for a couple of 'festivals'

Into the Void (Leeuwarden, October)
This one is two days but I am only going the first night. I am really looking forward to seeing Ancestors. They are the main reason for going. I have seen Wo-Fat and Blood of the Sun. A Storm of Light may be interesting. Elder will be good even though I prefer their old stuff.
Mono
Elder
WO-FAT
Blood of the Sun
Jo Quail
A Storm of Light
Minks
Zatokrev
Ancestors

Dutch Doom Days (Rotterdam, November)
Another two day festival. Again I am only going to one day of it. I will finally get to see Esoteric! I expect Ophis and Who Dies will also be highlights. Iteru sounds promising too.
Link has a video by each band - http://baroeg.nl/programma/ddd-xvii-saturday/
Whooom
Iteru
King Heavy
Ophis
Monolith Cult
Who Dies in Siberian Slush
Esoteric - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LECvAxB8C_E (recent live set)

I will also be going to see
The Skull (Eric Wagner of Trouble) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8vJeESTz88E
Evil Invaders in November - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t_jaNFlgZ5E
VoiVod in November - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SEJRfsDLFI0

This in addition to the usual slate of wine and whisky tastings (two whisky tastings this month alone!).

Anyone near south London on November 25th, come down to the Windmill, Blenheim Gardens, Brixton where the annual Brixton Hill Studios 'Christmas Carol' event will take place. Headliners this year are Fonda 500:
https://fonda500.bandcamp.com/album/i-heart-fonda-500
with support from Bad Parents:
https://soundcloud.com/wearebadparents
Hurtling:

and Ham Legion:

I shall be doing an alternative DJ set.

There's usually a free mince pie and a shot of sherry!
