Famous Chicago voice and creator of "Word Jazz", Ken Nordine passed away Saturday at age 98.

RIP Ken and thanks for making us think about "the voice" as the music and inspiration.

Great one, Teddy. Some good dis/information from such a persuasive voice. I always think it’s Ken Nordine’s voice when I hear a certain inner voice of mischief combined with reassurance.

Haven’t thought about Ken Nordine in a while but I remember his LP called Colors was a fave for a while.

I consider Colors to be in the same genre as Stones by Emil Richards.

The Bill Nelson track called Atom Shop it sounds to me to be Ken Nordine’s voice starts it off. In fact I think it’s a snippet from Word Jazz 8) followed by a just-as-persuasive voice, namely the voice of William S. Burroughs.

WSB had a voice the opposite of Ken’s, both in the same tradition, I guess, really, the tradition probably started by “Uncle Bill” Burroughs.

Sorry to hear of this. I do have 'Word Jazz' and did sample a line or two for a track of mine a good while back. He was an unusual artist with a distinctive voice and delivery. Rest in peace...
