Interesting topic with Bowie. He actually quit smoking in 1999. But for the fact that he lied about that, his wife made it very clear that smoking was one thing he would have to give up for her. So he tried very hard. But for the fact that he has been a 40 to 60-a-day man for forty years, he struggled with the addiction and making his wife happy. But after his daughter was born, he really had to curb his habit. This is when he really started to become a regular on the streets of NYC, hanging out mostly below 14th street, Mott Street and Mulberry Street coffee bars, faves where he would start the day with coffee, newspaper and his secret ciggies. Even caging them off regulars. But story has it (much like with Eric Clapton getting George Harrison smoking again) when Earl Slick returned to Bowie’s band, old habits were revisited. The German doctor who operated on Bowie gave him an honest evaluation which apparently frightened the bejaysis out of him. So I would imagine this did the trick as immediately (as is expected after a quadruple by-pass) Bowie started putting on the weight. But who can say for sure? Bowie is a really weird guy, who like Lennon, Prince, and a few others, are very superstitious and tend to resort to all sorts of things rather than just do anything conventionally.

I see no real reason for reviving this thread other than to say:

"We miss you Sean Mac".
