I said I see no joy, I see only sorry
I see no chance of your 'Bright New Tomorrow'
So stand down Maybot
Stand down, please
Stand down Maybot

Our lives seem petty in your cold grey hands
Would you give a second thought,
Would you ever give a damn?
I doubt it
Stand down Maybot
Awar!

So stand down Maybot
Stand down, please
Stand down Maybot

Stand Down Maybot (2017 remix) 8)

There is a light that never goes out - The Smiths.

I think this song is a good example of how the lyrics work well mainly due to the vocal style and delivery of the singer. Morrissey's timing on the above lines makes the verse so much more memorable. Style and panache. I can't imagine his lyrics sung by anyone else. I guess you can say that about most singers - but even more so of Morrissey, I think.

John

No but especially him! I agree. Its the persona of Morrissey that transforms it from a Wierd Al lyric to something cool.

'Angel was a dancer with a mean guitar,
Played the big romancer,
Like a movie star, too far
Burning the film behind his eyes'
