Very concerned about the terrible weather conditions on the lower East side of America, in particular the Carolinas. Have been watching the developing story on tv news. Hope that any fans of mine are ok, along with other families that have been impacted by this ferocious storm...

My son is based in North Carolina (airforce) and has been fortunate not to have seen much in the way of bad weather but they did fly out all of the F15s

It's bad of me, I know, but I've come to really love storm coverage .

It's like Impressionist paintings sometimes .

Several times I've been struck by the beauty of it .

Watching a line of deer silhouettes bobbing up and down through what once was a rural road, crazy light displays, splotches of green and grey, angry white ocean and skies .... female field reporter letting her hair blow I'm sure to add to the drama ... the way relentless water flowing down on the camera lens causes everything to ripple ... it's lovely .

It's truly awful what happens and I don't remember Hurricane Season being quite like this prior to a few years ago .

900,000 people without power .  and then there are those [unrelated] ridiculous gas-line explosions

For USA people especially a power cut is akin to balancing on the lip of The Void and gazing in .

However this animation and soundtrack are worth experiencing, as Merikan1 can testify to :

I was in Washington DC for meetings with various federal transportation agencies. I was terrified of the very thought of being stranded clean across the country from home. That happened to my Native Sovereign Nation's leadership during the 9/11 attack and they drove home. You get to learn first hand how wide a time zone is. There are 3 between there and here. In my case, the storm was to the south, our airplane had no delays or issues, I flew home happy. :D

Now snow is another matter all together.

Regarding the bad weather across the globe, at this moment in time, there are seven active named storms, which equals the record and a high possibility an eighth named storm is now developing in the Gulf of Mexico, which would be a record breaker.

The storms over the east coast of America are really bad, but by far the worst is Super Typhoon Mangkhut, with wind speeds of between 130-150 mph expected and gusts exceeding 180mph! (289 kph) ..this is a Pacific storm heading over the Philippines towards Hong Kong and northern Vietnam...sounds absolutely terrifying.

Thoughts go out to all who face the wrath of these storm beasts.

The link below shows some breathtaking NASA shots of these storm fronts.

Saw some of this on the BBC yesterday .

It brought to mind that buzz phrase from the early naughts, and earlier I'm sure, "the perfect storm" and the name of a book that I never read by Art Bell and Whitley Strieber, The Coming Global Superstorm [published in 1999] .

My aunt and uncle live over there. Hoping they are going to be ok. Its just hard to imagine a super typhoon! That is one thing that never needed a super version! :?
