Jeez, this one has been in my head for decades. That "ooo-wuh-ooo" part was always somehow life-affirming [as is every other hook and detail in the track] but I thought it happened more often ...

In the promo : Nice detail of the pegstock area string-plucking and comb-teeth thumb-sliding comparison . Dig .

A Chanel axe ?
Nice flier : Wigan Casino All-Nighter : Visit the Heart of Soul every Sat. Night ...

Kinda reminds me of Bill and the Mecca Lacarno Ballroom in Leeds [thanks to the very controversial Mr. Savile who claimed to have invented the two-turntables-and-a-microphone DJ]

Three different treatments of drums by my count.

Love the harpsichord and whatever that low thing is that's making a big reverb sound, that reminds listener of similar sounds heard on Pet Sounds tracks like 'Here Today' and 'I'm Waiting For The Day' and others by The Beach Boys .

This is an example of that certain place, that certain sky castle where a certain mood that Andy Partridge, Paul McCartney and Ray Davies all share flows all 'round ...

The artwork of Bob Lawrie and Terry Gilliam take you there.

Oh, to access the perspective advocated in these lyrics, except for the "it's too late, so late" bit, of course.

Wonder if Tears For Fears at least subconsciously got the "it's too late" line in their brilliantly catchy track 'Change' from here ...

8) …….A bygone era and that whole Northern Soul movement/times seems very faded in the old memory banks..still part of the musical (and life) jigsaw puzzle though!

Echo and the Bunnymen ~ 'Rescue'

This single and the album it was taken from ('Crocodiles'), were both real biggies for me upon release in 1980 and turned on a really bright light for my friends and bandmates and me..there was some really great and influential music coming out of Liverpool at that time..still sounds great and the album remains a favourite.. 8)

Since the late '80s, Tourist, gotta admit that whenever I see the word 'Wigan' I think of the band The Railway Children and, in particular, this song-and-promo of theirs:
