This is impossibly painful for me to write, but I have to inform everyone that my dearly loved and gentle brother Ian died peacefully in his sleep yesterday morning, on the day of his 50th birthday. I'm sure that those of you who knew Ian will be deeply shocked and saddened by this awful news. I will try to write in more detail during the next couple of days. Right now, I'm absolutely heartbroken. There will be a service and funeral on Tuesday the 2nd of May for close family ONLY, but there will be an opportunity immediately afterwards for friends and fans to gather together at The Yorkshire Sculpture Park to celebrate his life. Please pray or spare a caring thought for Ian and his family. I miss him terribly already.

I don't feel particularly qualified to respond on everyone's behalf but I'm the first to have the chance it seems.

Our very deepest sympathies to you and the rest of the family at this terrible time for you all.

I hope you feel some small comfort in the words which will follow mine from your many friends and admirers here.

Love to you all and Rest in Peace Ian.

I can't believe it. I cannot possibly imagine your grief. I had the great pleasure to meet Ian on a number of occasions. He was without doubt a man of gentility, humour and a great personality. I feel like I've lost a friend and yet he was only a passing acquantaince...such was the affect he had. 'scuse the poor english but to say the least I'm deeply saddened.

RIP Ian...my thoughts are with all Nelsonians tonight.

To Bill and Family,

I am so desperately sorry to hear this news.

I feel inadequate to say any more right now, except for sending my heartfelt love to all who were close to Ian - and of course, my deepest condolences.

John

I can't believe this, such terrible, terrible news.

I only met Ian on a couple of occasions but Ian made me feel like I had known him for years and years, such a warm and gentle man.

Deeply saddened: my thoughts and prayers are with you all tonight.

RIP Ian.

I was lost for words when I heard this news, in fact I thought that I heard wrongly, it didn't seem to sink in. A feeling of shock and emptiness.

I will be forever grateful to Ian during 'The Lost Satellites' concerts, he was a seasoned musical performer and the help, support and encouragement he gave me as a complete novice is something that I will never forget. A kind, gentle, genuine man who certainly made my world better during the all-too-brief times we spent together.

My deepest sympathies to all of Ian's family, my thoughts are with you.

Rest in peace Ian.

Jon.
