Have only just learnt of the sad and tragic loss of Ian, feeling the need to pass on condolences and love. I only met Ian a couple of times but on every occassion found him to be a very warm, open, approachable and loving human being. I work in and around Wakefield and am sorry to have missed the Tribute yesterday, but will visit the Sculpture Park and say a prayer.
A very sad and un-timely loss.

The world is a darker place without him,I can't beleive he's gone or begin to imagine your grief.
What a terrible shock,I mourn his passing with you.

In deepest sympathy.

I met Bill Nelson for the first time today (8/5/06) - I am sad to say my other half had tell me who he was. He felt a little awkward about asking for an autograph so I did the honours. He struck me as a genuinely warm and down to earth man and I felt inquisitive enough to find out a little more about the man.

I came across Bill's diary and was greatly moved by the news about Ian. He was so brave to have attended the show today - it must have been a tremendous emotional effort. Had I known what Bill has gone through over the last couple of weeks I would have wanted to express by deepest sympathy instead of asking him for something so trivial as an autograph.

the passing of a loved one is such a trauma to us here.... on this beautiful blue ball of tears and joy. what will we do without them? how may our lives ever be the same? or simply: God how i miss them.

it's all so, final and complete. we are left to carry on and our beloved one is no longer here to laugh and cry with us. but i believe we are here to live, learn and to give each other the best we can give. so, go on we must, after the pain of seperation, we live giving honor to our loved one and use the the memory of a life to try and enrich the world as they did by being here. a fitting memorial i think. so, as an artist, i'll think on him today, and a bit of the eternal fire will be in the work. even just a bit.

some words i've always found some comfort in:

Dance, when you're broken open.
Dance, if you've torn the bandage off.
Dance in the middle of the fighting.
Dance in your blood.
Dance, when you're perfectly free.
-- Jelaluddin Rumi (13th century)

Peace to the Nelson family, and blessings to them all, in all respect and empathy. he is perfectly free, and dances forever.

Zed.

Was not spoken of the soul."
